Microsoft’s attempt to refocus its mobile platform on business customers has definitely come to close. Indeed, the company has quietly announced that the Windows Phone apps for Skype for Business, Microsoft Teams and Yammer will be retired from the Microsoft Store on May 20 (via MSPoweruser).
Yammer is the best-in-class enterprise social network that makes your job easier and more productive. It brings together employees, content, conversation, and business data in a single convenient location, keeping you connected to the people and information you need to get work done.
“Moving forward, Windows Phone users will have the best experience by using Skype for Business, Microsoft Teams, and Yammer in the mobile web browser,” the company explained in the support page. While the Skype for Business and Yammer apps may continue to work after May 20, the Microsoft Teams app won’t. The Windows Phone version of Teams has always lagged behind its iOS and Android counterparts, and it never received support for audio and video calls. Still, this is a bit disappointing as push notifications for messages worked well.
Obviously, Microsoft is now inviting Office 365 customers to switch to iOS and Android phones, as the company continues to develop Skype for Business, Microsoft Teams and Yammer mobile apps for these two platforms. Are you affected by this decision, and if so do you think using the mobile web is an acceptable workaround? Let us know below.
